AT&T WirelessAT&T announces 3G support for Apple iPhone SlingPlayer Mobile App
Posted by Jerome on February 4, 2010

It has taken a while but AT&T and SlingMedia appear to have finally come to terms: AT&T announced that its 3G mobile broadband network will support the iPhone SlingPlayer Mobile application. Previous versions had been limited to Wi-Fi due to bandwidth concerns on the carriers 3G network.

The two companies worked together to come up with a new version that is optimized for AT&T's 3G network, reducing the risk of network congestion.

"We're delighted with AT&T's decision to approve the SlingPlayer Mobile app on their 3G network," said John Gilmore, senior vice president and general manager at Sling Media. "SlingPlayer Mobile on AT&T's 3G network gives customers the best experience possible for watching their home TV while on the go."

AT&T has also promised to provide other developers its wireless network optimization requirements for video and other applications by the end of Q1 2010.

The new 3G-optimized Apple iPhone SlingPlayer Mobile application may have its AT&T blessing now but it is still not available on the Apple App Store.

While AT&T has given its blessing to the application, it is not yet available on the Apple App Store.
