Samsung SGH-i617 BlackJack IIBlackJack II formally announced

AT&T and Samsung have announced the BlackJack II and showed it off today at a keynote address at CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2007 in San Francisco.

The BlackJack II will feature quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, built-in GPS, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, a 2MP camera. On the software side, it will include an RSS reader and support for AT&T Video Share, the first service in the U.S. that enables users to share live video over the wireless phones while on a voice call.. It will feature more memory, an improved speakerphone, and a higher capacity battery than the original BlackJack.

The just announced Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 will work with the BlackJack II. It offers companies an end-to-end solution for managing and securing Windows Mobile devices. Employees will also have access to company information and a line of business applications from a single, secure place behind the firewall by using a cutting-edge Mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN).

The BlackJack II will be available by the end of the year for USD$149.99 with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate. It will be available in both black and red wine colours.
